Blackpool central with the Golden Mile running along its seafront, this is the heart of Blackpool where so many of the resorts key attractions are concentrated. Blackpool's iconic Tower and Circus with its legendary Ballroom and whooper Wurlitzer Organ is the perfect place to start.

Move on to Louis Tussaud's Waxworks to clock your favourite characters from 'Corrie', if you can recognise them! Or check out the 'Horrors' section for a waxworks of Fred and Rose West. Also at 'Louis' the rock section has Robbie Williams and favourites like Freddie Mercury. Personal favourite has to be Sarah Brightman who could possibly double up as TRex! Waxworks have been in Blackpool since the 1870s. More delights - see also Sea Life and Blackpool's Central Pier - crammed with rides, a Big Wheel and bars. www.blackpoollive.com for show dates and tickets.Find Central Blackpool Hotels Find Central Blackpool Accommodation Back to Blackpool Tourist Information

Blackpool Tower & Circus

Blackpool Tower, since it first appeared in the 1890s, has come to symbolise everything Blackpool. The best views of Blackpool and beyond are to be had up here. There's a glass panel floor at the top - known as 'the walk of faith'.

The Tower Ballroom is ingrained in the history of Blackpool with a mighty Wurlitzer Organ, now complimented further apparently by the three Deck Wersi. High teas and evening dances are on the menu here in what has to be the most beautifully ornate ballroom in the country, followed closely by the Empress Ballroom in nearby Winter Gardens.

There's plenty for the kids as well (if they don't fancy a turn on the ball room). Surreal Mooky the clown will be on hand in Tower Circus, or there's Jungle Jims which is full of soft amusements for the kids to roll around in. Wait, there's more - check out the Aquarium, Dinosaur Ride and the Hornpipe Gallery - all this for such a great price. Blackpool Tower's website has details of all opening times and prices, and you can pre-book on-line.

Blackpool's Central Pier (1868)

Blackpool's central pier (South Jetty or The People's Pier, as it was known) was the second to be built after North Pier, and had a much different feel about it. The focus on Central was much more on entertainment such as dancing, cheap steamer trips and side-shows. Dancing was open air and there was even an ice rink.

Today Central Pier is a great fun family pier, with classic 'Legends' show still running with look-a-like Elvis' and such singing their lungs out, the huge big wheel for great views of the resort and the Pier End Family Bar. Central Pier has a real family buzz!

Blackpool's Winter Gardens and Opera House

When the famous publicist William Holland was recruited from London music halls to manage the Winter Gardens from 1887 until he died in 1894 - Winter Gardens really started to take off. Holland changed the feel of the place from up-market concerts to music hall and the renowned female human cannonballs. It only cost sixpence to get in and they flocked to it.

Now Winter Gardens is a mix of room venues, including still the spectacular Empress Ballroom and art deco Spanish Hall Suite, to hire for events, and of course the huge Opera House Theatre which often hosts big glamorous shows from the West End.
