Getting to Blackpool couldn't be easier for both International and UK visitors. Numerous ferry services are available from Ireland to Liverpool with a direct ferry services from Larne to Fleetwood just north of Blackpool centre offered by Stena Line. Motorway networks into Blackpool are direct off the M6/M55 and National Express offer a comprehensive coach service from numerous European destinatios into Blackpool. Arriving by train into Blackpool's main station Blackpool North is made easy by frequent swift rail links offered by Northern Rail and First TransPennine Express from Preston and Manchester. Once in Blackpool the town's historic tram service which pushes the full 12 mile stretch of the prom from Squires Gate to Fleetwood makes moving around Blackpool budget and easy. To really get your bearings an open top bus tour of Blackpool is just the ticket, offered every 30 minutes daily in the summer season by City Sightseeing tours. Walking of course is always a great option in Blackpool along the town's historic promenade. Cycling is permitted around the South Shore area and serves as a great way to take in the Great Promenade Show's selection of sculptures.

Blackpool International Airport

Serving as regional airport for both Lancashire and Cumbria, Blackpool Airport in 2008 boasts direct flights to over 20 popular European destinations including Dublin, Gerona, Tenerife, Faro, Rome and Sorrento.

Situated just a few minutes from Blackpool centre and Lytham St Annes, and within easy reach of main motorway links, Blackpool Airport sits at the end of the M55 which filters into the M6, M61 and M65. Blackpool North Station is a mere 10 minutes from the airport and has regular links from Preston around every 10 minutes. A taxi ranks sits just outside the arrivals hall for swift access into Blackpool Centre and Lytham St Annes. The X61 Stagecoach bus departs from Talbot Road Coach Station in Blackpool three times daily stopping at Blackpool Airport (journey time around 15 minutes, checkout the Stagecoach webguide right for details). Car Parking is ample at Blackpool Airport and includes a short stay car park just outside the passenger terminal. For stays one day or more use the on-site long stay car park and pre-book online via the airport's website. The first 15 minutes in both car parks are free. Budget airlines including Jet2 and Ryanair offer flights to and from Blackpool Airport with numerous cheap flight deals to and from Blackpool.

Getting to Blackpool & Lytham St Annes

Blackpool and the Lancashire coast is easily accessed by road and boasts excellent public transport links. The M55 motorway links Blackpool, Lytham and Blackpool Airport with the main M6 motorway. National Express offer coaches from a huge number of European destinations direct to Blackpool and the local bus service around Blackpool, Lancashire and the Fylde coast is run by Stagecoach buses (weblink right for timetables). Rail services into Blackpool are frequent both from Manchester and Preston (see Northern Rail and First TransPennine Express train timetables via the weblinks right).

Fast ferry services from Ireland to Liverpool are offered by a number of ferry companies, with easy access on to Blackpool by road. The most direct ferry services is offered by Stena Line from Larne to Fleetwood just north of Blackpool. Steam Packet also offer ferry services from the Isle of Man to both Liverpool and Heysham Port on the Lancashire Coast.

Blackpool Trams & Open Top Bus Tours Blackpool

Moving around Blackpool is made easy via the town's tram and high visibility bus system operated by Metro Coastlines (weblink right). Trams runs the full 12 mile stretch of the Blackpool prom from Squires Gate to Cleveleys and Fleetwood. Trams run regularly and daily (except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day) and have been serving Blackpool since the mid 1880s.

Colour coded buses extend the tram service to Lytham and inland to hotspots such as Marton Mere. Bargain discount Travel Cards are available for all Metro Coastline services for 1, 3 5 and 7 days.

City Sightseeing offer open top bus tours around Blackpool (weblink right). The full bus tour lasts 90 minutes, starting at Pontins Clifton Drive and the frequency is every 30 minutes. One ticket gets you 2 days unlimited hop on/hop off service for a great price. The route takes in all of Blackpool's main attractions including Blackpool Pleasure beach, Blackpool's three piers, Blackpool Tower and Sandcastle Indoor Waterpark, Blackpool Zoo and Stanley Park and Haven Holiday Park at Marton Mere.
