The historic big four golf courses in Lytham and Lytham St Annes - St Annes Old Links, Royal Lytham, Fairhaven and Green Drive Golf Course - all sit within easy reach of each other. A golfer's dream indeed, Lytham and Lytham St Annes are a UK hub for traditional links courses - this area of Lancashire lives and breathes golf! Royal Lytham St Annes Golf Course first hosted the Open Championships in 1926 and the same year was awarded the Royal title. A regular host to the Open, Royal Lytham is one of the most famous of the links courses, the course is the only championship course opening with a Par 3. The first 4 holes and last 5 are renowned as the ultimate test for any golfer. The clubhouse is Victorian, the club was founded in 1886 and course constructed in 1897. This Lytham course is renowned for its beauty and wooded landscape. The course is within the grounds of Lytham Hall Park - it moved here from its original site at Fairhaven Lakes in 1924. Fairhaven is a qualifier for the Open, when held at Royal Lytham, as is the historic St Annes Old Links Golf Club which dates from 1902. The Old Links is a beloved seaside links course with its famed four ponds making six of its holes tricky indeed. Lytham's Green Drive Golf Course has also served as qualifier for the Open at Royal Lytham. With its distincitve parkland features, the 14th hole - Devil's Elbow has challenged many a golfer.
