Blackpool Gay Clubs and Gay Bars

Blackpool's gay clubs and gay bars offer a superb range of choice, whether it's a dance your socks off night you're looking for, or a laid back cruise. Many of the gay clubs in Blackpool, like the famous Flying Handbag, have been around for a while and are well established. Blackpool has a large resident gay community which gives the gay scene here a great boost and character. For detailed Blackpool gay scene information check out the definitive astabgay.com.

Blackpool Northshore Talbot Street is where to head first for a selection of Blackpool gay clubs, including Mardi Gras which is open all day from noon 'til 2am. On Sundays it closes at 12.30am unless there's a Charity do. Mardi Gras isn't known for being a dance mecca, but there's a friendly cruise atmosphere, plenty of cabaret with resident compares, plus good food and reasonably priced beer.

Blackpool's biggest dance your socks off gay club is the Flamingo, with two huge dance floors and lots of bars and it's got a late licence for Fridays and Saturdays. It's right next door to the Flying Handbag, a Blackpool gay pub with a real friendly atmosphere. The Flying Handbag gay pub is also on Talbot Street, and open all day, with a quieter feel during the day. There's no dance floor here, but plenty of party atmosphere, plus cabaret and compares. It's very popular and open Monday to Saturday from 11.00am until 11.30pm and on Sunday from midday until 11.00pm. It's a good idea to access the Flamingo through the connecting doors of the Flying Handbag - can be cheaper! Check with the Astabgay site (link to the right), as plans are afoot in 2005 to demolish the Flamingo and the Flying Handbag in favour of a new big complex connected to Blackpool's famous drag queen cabaret venue Funny Girls. The Flamingo, it seems, will then be on the first floor of Funny Girls.

Blackpool's gay scene includes many other smaller gay pubs and gay friendly venues. Check out Roxy's on Queen Street which serves excellent food.
