Widely considered as the finest Georgian house in the North West, Grade I listed Lytham Hall dates from 1752-64 and was built for Thomas Clifton by the renowned architect John Carr of York (1723-1807). Carr's work across the North of England was prolithic, and included renovations to York Minster, the glorious Harewood House near Leeds and elsewhere in the North West Tabley House in Knutsford Cheshire. A fascinating early design by Carr with a distinctive two colour design and Carr trade marks - shallow sloping roof, use of traditional materials and well proportioned rooms. The house is open to the public every Sunday for tours commencing 2pm and on the last Sunday of every month and on Bank Holidays from 1.30pm-4.30pm for self tours. See the Friends of Lytham Hall webguide right for more history and details on events and opening times.

The Fylde area is famous for its selection of historic windmills, and most famous of all and iconic landmark of Lytham is the windmill on Lytham Green dating from 1805. Working until 1919, the Mill is now a free museum documenting the history of the Mill and bread making and Lytham life. Adjacent to the windmill sits the Lytham Lifeboat Museum documenting the story of lifeboat rescue here since 1851. Bordering the green at Lytham are the historic Lowther Gardens dating from 1873 with later added Lowther Pavilion (weblink right) dating from 1921. On the St Annes waterfront the Victorian Pier, first opened in 1865, is particularly special despite losing its central Pavilion to a fire in 1928.
