Isle of Man Tourist Information Ramsey Mooragh Park Douglas Shopping Attractions Hotels

One of the best ways to get to Ramsey is by electric rail of course along the coast from Douglas, it's only 16 miles and makes a memorable journey. This trip will take you up through beautiful countryside, passed Laxey. Ramsey is actually the second biggest town in the Isle of Man and possesses another stunning coastline combined with specialist shopping and a working harbour. Popular tourist attractions include the Grove Rural Life Museum, once a Victorian farm and now preserved as it was with reference to bee keeping, and old Victorian farm equipment on show. Move down to the harbour, at the estuary of the River Sulby, there's a swing bridge and twin breakwaters.

Ramsey's sandy beach continues for about 10 miles up to the Point of Ayre which is crowned by the distinctive red and white lighthouse. The Point of Ayre coastline stretch is a nature reserve and makes perfect walking country. Close by is the Curraghs Wildlife Park. Walk up to Albert Tower for the best views of the area or check out Mooragh Park which offers 40 acres of gardens and a large boating lake with cafeteria on-site. Ramsey's attractive sandy bay is overlooked by many large Georgian hotels and Victorian guest houses - a perfect atmospheric base. If you love walking, cycling and horse riding then head for Ramsey!

Grove Rural Life Museum

How about exploring the history of agriculture in this 'preserved in time' Victorian farm, once owned by a Liverpool Shipping Magnate - Duncan Gibb. It started off as the family's holiday home in the mid-19th century, but as times got tough they moved in full-time.

There are some fascinating exhibits on show, including Victorian agricultural machinery, a house preserved with original Victorian features and decor, various outbuildings and some costumes are on show.

Entrance fee: £3 adults, £1.50 children. Open from 1st April, 10am-5pm (not open all year round!)

Mooragh Park

Once a swamp!, Mooragh Park is now a bit of a mecca for public gatherings, particularly around the enormous boating lake where you can hire boats, or take Kayaking lessons. There's lots of children's play areas with swings and so forth. Crazy Golf and bowling is also on-site.
