A taxi from Liverpool Airport will see you in the city centre in around 20 minutes! Liverpool John Lennon Airport sits just 7 miles to the south east of Liverpool city centre and is one of the UK's fastest growing airports. Officially opened in 1933, it's also one of Britain's oldest airports. Liverpool Airport's close proximity to the city is one of its key plus points. Airlink 500 buses run regularly from the airport into the city centre Monday to Friday every 20 minutes, and every half hour evenings and weekends. Bus costs are minimal (see Getting to/from the airport via the weblink right). Other swifty frequent bus services will whisk you from the airport into Manchester city centre (Arriva 700). Alternatively a Hackney taxi rank is situated directly outside the airport terminal and the mere 7 mile journey to Liverpool city centre by taxi takes around 20 minutes. A selection of Arriva bus services will drop you directly to Liverpool city centre railway stations including Lime Street, South Parkway (main rail station nearest the airport) and Liverpool Hunts Cross for onward rail journies.
Budget airlines like Ryanair offer a huge choice of flights to Liverpool from a choice of European destinations (37 destinations at 2008) - check the destinations and timetables guide via the airport's webguide. Direct flights to Liverpool within the UK and Ireland fly from Inverness, Aberdeen, the Isle of Man, Dublin, Cork, Shannon, Derry and Belfast.
A convenient Fast Lane Passenger service operates at Liverpool Airport. For a small fee the Fast Lane means you'll pass through security quickly saving time. Award winning safe car parking is on-site and pre-booking on-line will save you money. All of the airport's car parks have 24 hour CCTV surveillance, high fencing and are well-lit. The two large long-stay car parks are conveniently very close to the terminal building with Premium Parking available directly adjacent. Pick up and drop off is at the top end of the Short Stay car park. Passengers are advised to book long stay car parking for stays longer than 12 hours. The first 10 minutes (convenient for pick ups and drop offs) is free. Blue Badge replacement vouchers are available so you can take your Blue Badge abroad. (pick up vouchers at the kiosk located at the Pick up/Drop off area). Disabled bays are located at the Pick up and Drop off car park, Long Stay Car Park 1 and they sit nearest to the terminal building.

Arriva's City Centre Circular S1 bus service moves around the city every 10 minutes during daytimes. (see the circular bus route map via Arriva's weblink right). Bus routes S2 and S3 offer further city centre bus services. Bus services to popular outlying hotspots like Southport run regularly every 15 minutes. Fast trains from Liverpool City Centre Moorfields or Liverpool Central Station to Southport along the Northern Line take a mere 30 minutes, whilst trains on the Wirral line from Liverpool's main three stations to Port Sunlight for the historic village and Lady Lever gallery take just 20 minutes. The three main Merseyrail lines include the Northern Line for Southport and trips to Aintree Racecourse and the Football Grounds, the Wirral line for Birkenhead, Port Sunlight, New Brighton and West Kirby and the City Line for direct links to Wigan, Preston and Warrington. Worth noting is the special bus services offered in Liverpool such as the soccerbus which runs on matchdays usually from Sandhills, or Bank Hall direct to both Anfield and Goodison Park. All of Liverpool's buses benefit from low floors for easy access on and off or when carrying luggage.
If you're planning to pack in numerous Liverpool attractions into one day then a Saveaway special discount travel ticket might prove cost effective. No visit to Liverpool is complete without a boat trip across the Mersey to Birkenhead. The best of Liverpool's historic waterfront views are from the water. Mersey Ferry trips are part of the Big Mersey Adventure experience (weblink right) and includes the ferry trip with comprehensive historic commentary and a visit to Spaceport themed attraction sited at the Seacombe Ferry Terminal across the water. The daily River Explorer Cruises across the Mersey are the most popular but Mersey Ferries also offer boat cruises down the Manchester Ship Canal, special cruises and boat hire.
The Mersey Ferries River Explorer departs from Pierhead on the Liverpool waterfront to Seacombe and Woodside on the Wirral every hour from 10am to 3pm daily Mondays to Fridays.
