New Brighton is particularly famous for its promenade, running up from Seacombe to New Brighton for 3.5km. Perfect seaside strolling territory, the New Brighton Promenade offers spectacular views across the Mersey of the Liverpool Waterfront panorama.
Markers remain of New Brighton's rich seaside resort history - note the ornate seating on New Brighton's glorious promenade. Completed in 1900, the New Brighton Tower once towered over the the resort at 567 feet. As spectacular as Blackpool's and similar in structure although New Brighton's was specifically modelled on the Eiffel Tower in Paris, visitors could make out the Isle of Man from the top on clear days. Below the tower sat the famous New Brighton Assembly Hall, Winter Gardens and Refreshment Rooms.
The elegant Tower Ballroom, associated with New Brighton for decades and host to numerous competitions and beauty contests, sadly was lost to a fire in 1969. (the New Brighton Tower had already been dismantled by 1921). Numerous photographs remain of the Tower and Ballroom however (see the New Brighton history webguides right and New Brighton's historic seaside resort attractions and buildings feature heavily in Liverpool's famous Stewart Bale photography archive. Head to Liverpool's Conservation Centre to find out more). The Tower Ballroom claimed at one time to be one of the largest ballrooms in the world. Other historic seaside attractions in New Brighton include the popular outdoor sea water bathing pool which first opened in 1934. In the 1950s this was the site for Miss New Brighton competitions and National Diving Championships. Still popular in the 1980s, the pool was the site of a huge pop music festival filmed by ITV in 1984. Sadly storm damage in 1990 saw the end of the pool. See photography of the pool's heyday via the New Brighton history webguide right.
Popular attractions along New Brighton's promenade include the spectacular Art Deco Bright Spot Amusement and Funfair ride complex where you'll find a superb choice of traditional seaside amusements including a karting track.
An outstanding heritage site on the Wirral at New Brighton, Fort Perch Rock was built in 1827 to defend the Mersey - although it just missed the Napoleonic Wars. Still it was manned through most of Britain's further conflicts, and only officially closed as a defence fort in 1959. This strategically important fort contains a fascinating exhibition within on its history and can be hired as a private venue with on-site bar. New Brighton's own Lighthouse sits just off shore from Fort Perch Rock.

New Brighton's main Theatre just off the promenade is the Floral Pavilion. This classic and popular theatre is, like much of the historic New Brighton waterfront, getting a complete makeover. Check the Floral Pavilion's weblink below for updates.
