Up, up and away!
Aircraft viewing and plane spotting
Concord, as if we need to say!Ever fancied the opportunity of watching aircraft arrivals and departures take off and land from an excellent viewing point where you're about as close as you can get without being on the runway? Manchester Airport has it's own Aviation Viewing Park, which is clearly marked and best reached off Junction 6 of the M56. That's one junction on from the main Airport. The Aviation Viewing park can also be reached by bus from the Airport Station pick-up point.
It's very popular, especially with kids. Best done on a clear day! Find Manchester Airport Hotels Find Manchester Airport Accommodation Back to Greater Manchester Tourist Information
If you are fascinated by watching planes take off then there is a designated viewing area near the airport for obviously the best views. The viewing park is situated on the A538, between Junction 6 of the M56 motorway and the airport tunnels. Turn down Sunbank Lane, by The Romper public house, then right onto Wilmslow Old Road, and follow to the end. The park is open from 08.30 till dusk everyday except Boxing Day, for latest entry charges please call 01625 534 790.
There's a great informative Visitor Centre at the viewing park, with a real educational slant - great for kids, and also has an Avro RJX exhibit, which is the last Civil Airliner built in the UK. The park has three raised viewing mounds, great for taking photographs from and offering the best views of the runways.
There's an Aviation shop also on-site, and disabled access is excellent. Also, Concorde is now on display near the Aviation Viewing area. Full indepth technical tours of Concorder are offered, and it's certainly a unique idea for a small group day out in the North West!
Also on offer are VIP Champagne specials which include a tour of Concorde. Check the Manchester Airport website for full details!
